Side by Side is pretty straightforward, it’s there in the lyrics. It’s about being alone with your memories and coming to terms with the terms of existence. It’s about attempting to relate to others when you know they are transient, and trying to let them go when they die. It also acknowledges that even though the things we love cease to be, they form who we are. I think it sounds better when it’s sung. Somehow, when explained, it loses it’s art.
